Treadmill Distance Calculator — Speed and Time to Miles
How far did you walk or run? Enter the treadmill speed and time to get distance in miles and kilometers. Add a segment for each speed change in an interval or incline session.
Calculate treadmill distance
Distance
1.50miles
2.41km
30:00 total at an average of 3.00 mph (20:00 min/mile)
Belt distance only: incline does not change it.
How far did I run on the treadmill?
Distance = speed × time. At 3.0 mph for 30 minutes the belt moves 1.50 miles; at 6 mph for the same time it moves 3.00 miles. In km/h, multiply the speed by the hours: 10 km/h for 45 minutes is 7.5 km.
If the speed changed during the session, add the distance of each part. Worked example: a 5-minute walk at 3.0 mph, 20 minutes at 6.0 mph and a 5-minute walk at 3.0 mph cover 2.50 miles (4.02 km) in 30:00, an average of 5.00 mph. Averaging the speeds without weighting by time would give the wrong answer.
The console works out the same number from belt speed and time. If you only know your pace, convert it to speed with the treadmill pace calculator first.
Does incline change the distance? The 12-3-30 example
No. The 12-3-30 workout is 3 mph at 12% incline for 30 minutes: 1.50 miles (2.41 km) on the console, exactly the same as 30 minutes at 3 mph on a flat belt. The incline adds effort and vertical climb, not belt distance.
For the climb, use the elevation gain calculator on the incline page; for energy, use the treadmill calorie calculator. If your watch shows a different distance from the console, see treadmill calibration.

Treadmill distance FAQs
How far is 30 minutes on a treadmill?
It depends on the speed: distance = speed × time. In 30 minutes you cover 1.50 miles at 3 mph, 2.00 miles at 4 mph and 3.00 miles at 6 mph. The tables above list other speeds and times.
How many miles is the 12-3-30 workout?
1.50 miles (2.41 km) of belt distance: 3 mph for 30 minutes. The 12% incline makes it harder but does not add distance on the console. The incline calculator estimates the elevation gain.
Does incline add distance on a treadmill?
No. The console counts how far the belt moves, which depends only on speed and time. Incline changes the effort and the vertical climb, not the belt distance.
How long does it take to walk a mile on a treadmill?
At 3 mph a mile takes 20:00; at 3.5 mph, 17:09; at 4 mph, 15:00. Time per mile is 60 ÷ speed in mph, in minutes.
Why does my watch show a different distance?
Indoors a watch estimates distance from arm or foot motion, while the treadmill counts belt movement. They often disagree by a few percent. The treadmill calibration page shows how to measure the gap and check which one is right.
